For the music marketing project me and my group got the genre rock. When we first got this genre we were all a little concerned with the song choices we would have available. We settled on one song called "Sail" by AWOLNATION. We choose this song because we believe we can create a promotional/storytelling piece. Then we created our charts, which was fairly easy since there is so much information about the rock genre. Then we began the storyboarding for the actual music video.
The storyboarding has been the most complex part of the project that we have encountered so far. The reason for this being that we had to match the ideas that we had in our heads to the actual beat of the music. In order to get this right, we had to listen to the song while brainstorming about ideas for our video. We decided that the video is going to be about a guy and a girl who broke up due to how unhappy they were in their relationship. The girl then gets a new boyfriend and the ex is left angry and alone. Throughout the video, the ex will have flashbacks of the happy moments he shared with his girlfriend and therefore, get more angry and want to do something about it. The video ends with the ex beating up the new boyfriend and getting the revenge he felt he needed. We had to make two storyboards because the first draft we did we decided to scrap because we had to many unnecessary scenes.
The second hardest part of the project has been the actual marketing campaign we have to make for our artist Axel Hayes. Designing a whole marketing and distribution campaign is complicated because there are so many parts to it. For example, the merchandise, the production of the songs, the distribution, and the promotion of songs through social media. For the merchandise, we decided to go with a clean design, blacks hoodies with out artists name in the middle of them 3 times. We are also collaborating with adidas, the collaboration consists of adidas t-shirts and hats with the 3 adidas lines and Axel Hayes written under them. For production, since Axel Hayes is a new artist we have not yet decided if he will sign to a label or do things solo. His songs will be distributed throughout most streaming platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube. For the promotion of songs, social media will be the most active source to interact with our artist. Since he is still young, he will manage his own social media as a way to interact with fans. For example, to promote songs on TikTok, he will create videos singing and dancing the new song.
